College can be a crazy place; parties, new friends, worthy causes and a lot of studying in between. Dont be overwhelmed by it all! The following article will offer you some very valuable advice that can see you through these years and right up to graduation, so pay close attention!

When you enter college, try to reduce the amount of starches that you eat during your freshman year. Typically, you will put on a lot of weight in the initial stages of college, as this will help you to counter that. Try to incorporate a lot of fruits and vegetables into your diet.

If you need money for college, you should consider applying for federal financial aid and scholarships. Visit the FAFSA website and follow the application process to get access to federal funding or grants. If you are denied federal funding, apply for different scholarships related to the subject you want to study.

Keep in touch with your family. This may seem like a no-brainer, but its hard sometimes to keep in touch with your siblings and parents when you have so much going on in your college life. Make time for at least one call or Skype session every week, and youll make them happy.

Get all distractions and chores out of the way before you sit down to study. That way, you wont be tempted to be distracted by things that you could or should be doing instead. Many people find that unfinished chores lure them away from studying and give them an excuse to procrastinate. So get those things out of the way first so you can give your studying undivided attention.

Take extra writing utensils with you to your tests. There is always a strong possibility that your pencil could break or that your pen could run out of ink while youre doing your test. Having a backup writing utensil can help you continue your test without being distracted by having to sharpen a pencil or refill a pen.

Exercise

Get up early in the morning. Rising at 7 AM, or so will give you ample time for waking up, having breakfast and some additional study time. It is good to have a relaxed morning routine before classes each day.

If you are in class and find yourself bored out of your mind, do yourself a favor and stay until it ends. Often times college kids exercise their right to leave whenever they want but you never know when you will miss some truly important information. So make sure to attend every class in its entirety.

Get serious about exercise. Exercise is something that many students dont get enough of. Because weight gain is so normal in college freshmen especially, you have to make the time to get a small workout in so you can stay slim and fit. Think about jogging or using the campus pool to do your workouts.

Nutrition

Every freshman should understand and realize that the freshman 15 does in fact exist. It is important that everyone take the necessary steps to ensure that they are getting proper nutrition during their first year in college. While it might be tempting to pile on some fries for dinner every night, youll pay for it in the long run.

Hopefully you have learned some very valuable lessons within this article that you can apply to your collegiate aspirations. College is not easy and youve got a lot of important decisions to make; make sure you consider the big picture and not just the here and now. College will help you through the rest of your life!
